I chose to concept and create props for our island - environmental objects ranging from flora and fauna to static artefacts to populate the scene, as well as equipment for player and npcs to use. Concepts were initially hand-sketched, and then photographed to serve as reference image in Autodesk Maya. Textures were created in Photoshop and Krita. |
The Prayer system allows for players to change their character attributes on the fly, which are used to interact with the environment and solve puzzles which proceeds the plots. It is divided into four sections that aligns with the virtues associated with the four main Gods in the Hawaiian pantheon. Besides what is conveyed in the main plot of the game, players may learn more about the cultures and values of the Hawaiian people by accessing the Halau, or school feature in-game. |
As the players proceed in the game, the atmosphere changes accordingly - this is done with an intrinsic system of C# scripts that interacts with lighting and skybox asset properties. In addition to scripts pertaining to environmental changes, I have also written others that mainly deals with Mecanim (Unity animation state machines) and procedural character generation. |
All in all, the team has created a beautiful game title that may be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Working with the new developers of Kokua Games has granted me further insights on team dynamics and the importance of an efficient asset integration pipeline.
